History of Tian’an men Square

Tian’an men Square, the largest city-center square in the world, 800 meters long and 500 meters wide. It was first built in 1420 as office area out of the royal palace. In 1950s, the old square was damaged, rebuilt it into the present appearance, surrounded by some famous Buildings, and became a public gathering place for celebration of festivals…

Famous buildings around the square and on the square
  • The great hall of the people, located at west of the square, it is fist build in 1959, in order to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the people’s republic of China established. It is the building for Chinese central government to held important meetings, the two annual session held in this build every year.
  • The National Museum, located at est of the square, also built in 1959, for the 10-year anniversary celebration of the people’s republic of China established. it is the largest and most comprehensive museum in China, it was rebuilt in 2003,  after it was rebuilt, the museum became a 5 stories building for displaying Chinese relics, all the exhibition be generally divided into Ancient China displaying, Chinese revolution history displaying, art displaying, as well as many temporary displaying for different topic.
  • Tian’an Men gate building, it was first built in 1420 served as the main entrance of the imperial city, and rebuilt in 1644.
  • The Monument to the people’s heroes, it stands on the center of Tian’an Men Square, on the front side of the monument carved Chinese character of ‘Eternal glory to the people’s heroes‘, it was built in 1958, in memory of the heroes who laid down their lives in the liberation war and revolution war from 1860–1949.

  • This area are busy place due to a lots tourists every day come here, There is no parking lot here.
  • As here is a very crowded attraction, in order to ensure security, every body should take passport or ID card to visit this square.
  • Make reservation at least 1 day before to get in the square. Ticket free, only reservation information requested.
