[Local Expert Insight] Why 20% of Our Guests Choose to Add a 5th Day
In recent years, Beijing’s popularity has soared, making top sites much more crowded than before. While a 4-day itinerary covers the “must-sees,” many travelers now find it a bit rushed.
One extra day (5 days total) allows you to:
Explore the hidden Hutong alleys by rickshaw.
Visit the magnificent Lama Temple (Yonghe Palace).
Enjoy a slower pace, leaving room for authentic local dining without the rush.
If you have the time, we highly recommend the 5-day option for a more “Slow Travel” experience.
[A Sincere Advice from Your Guide] Making the Most of Your Time at Tiananmen Square
As your local guide with 20 years of experience, my priority is your comfort. Tiananmen Square is a site of great significance, but today it involves extremely strict security checks.
During peak seasons, queues can last 1.5 to 2 hours in the sweltering heat or biting cold. In my professional opinion, waiting that long for a security check is often not the best use of your precious holiday time.
Our Flexible Approach: If the queues are too long, I often suggest a “Drive-by Tour.” Our driver will take you around the perimeter of the square, allowing you to see the Great Hall of the People and the Monument to the People’s Heroes from the comfort of your air-conditioned car. This saves your energy for the Forbidden City, where the real architectural magic happens.
